Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide is administered through a nose hood during the entire procedure. This method helps elevate your mood and creates a sense of well-being. More importantly, it significantly reduces anxiety and pain throughout treatment. Unlike other sedation options, nitrous oxide allows you to drive yourself to and from appointments safely.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation involves taking oral medication before treatment begins, followed by the use of nitrous oxide for deeper relaxation. While you remain awake during this process, your senses become dulled. As a result, most patients do not recall any pain, smells, or noises associated with their procedure. However, when oral medication is used, you will need someone to drive you to and from your appointment.
IV Sedation
Patients who have experienced IV sedation often describe it as feeling like they slept through the entire procedure. Even treatments lasting several hours can feel like mere minutes under IV sedation. This option is commonly used for longer procedures or complex oral surgeries but can also be applied to simpler treatments like fillings or cleanings if needed. Keep in mind that IV sedation requires a driver for transportation to and from your appointment.
