It’s the summer, and your calendar is packed with everything but a consistent routine. It’s easy to fall out of healthy habits like eating right and finding time to work out, especially when you have plans to hang out at the lake or at a backyard barbecue. But it’s also easy to keep up those healthy habits without interrupting your fun!
It’s hard to fit in a workout when you have destinations to hit and friends or family to join! A workout tip from one of our assistants, Amy, is to get others involved. “Challenge those your with to some fun and quick sprint races, make it a game, and see who can finish the sets first.
Inspire Some Movement
If you’re with a group or individual that’s maybe a little less motivated to get physical that day let them call out the moves! Give them that list of workouts you’ve saved or bookmarked on Pinterest and Instagram and they can call out your routine. I’ve personally had a lot of fun with this method and I think most are quite entertained by your efforts! Hah! Who knows maybe you’ll inspire some movement for them too!”
Make It a Priority
With finding that time for movement the biggest thing is to make it a priority and find your personal realistic goal. There is nothing wrong with going a little light on your goals as long as you can stay active! Come fall when the northwest rains send us indoors, you’ll be thankful you’ve kept your body moving so those indoor workouts are not so defeating.
Summer usually finds us all over the map and out of our normal eating routines. A quick tip from our hygienist Dayna is to always be stocked with a go-to healthy snack and to keep water on hand. Snacking is one of the hardest things in our nutrition.
Keep Your Kitchen Stocked
Some suggestions are mixed nuts, red bell pepper with guacamole, greek yogurt and mixed berries, apple slices and peanut butter, kale chips, and really any healthy food that’s going to require minimal effort and is easy to grab or pack! Keep your kitchen stocked with just one or two options so you know it’s always available to you.
Summertime
Another lure that comes with summertime is all the fruity cocktails! A single cocktail can contain loads of sugar (and calories). If a stiff drink is necessary (and sometimes it is!), try some of these healthier options instead.
Use 100% juice for mixing to reduce added sugars, remember juice can still be a dangerous food so sometimes it’s best to dilute it with water or ice to cut back on calories. Make your simple syrup with honey instead of sugar. Size matters when consuming liquid calories, so try to keep your drinks at 8oz. A healthy drink suggestion from Kim, who greets you at the front desk, is “ Blue agave tequila with tonic and 1⁄4 of a lime. Yum!!”
We hope these tips were helpful and insightful for your healthy summer lifestyle!!! Please remember to have safe summer fun and soak up these sunny days so we can all make it through the winter. Leave us a comment if you get to try any of these tips out! 😉
